Pre-treatments like cleaning, dehulling, decortications, flaking and heat treatments assist to enhance the recovery and quality of oil during processing. Oil extraction methods including ghanies, hydraulic press, screw press and solvent extraction are discussed in detail.

- Oilseeds are seeds in which oil can be extracted from. The seeds are crushed to obtain oil for human consumption, biodiesel/fuel production and the remainder is processed into meal which is used as high protein livestock and poultry feed.
